Ulpee Darbar

Background

Dr Ulpee Darbar trained and qualified as a dental surgeon in 1986. She accredited in 1996 as a specialist in restorative dentistry with her CCST and entered the General Dental Council specialist list for restorative dentistry, periodontology, prosthodontics and endodontics. She is currently a consultant in restorative dentistry based at the Eastman Dental Hospital and has set up the Restorative Outreach Service at Charing Cross Hospital for the restorative management of patients with head and neck oncology. She is also the director for dental education and lead on the training initiatives for dentists and specialist trainees. She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her specialist interests are in the management of patients with inherited gum problems (aggressive periodontitis) as well as those requiring reconstruction with dental implants including head and neck oncology patients and those requiring multidisciplinary and complex integrated restorative care. She also specialises in managing patients with gingival tissue loss. She has lectured widely and published extensively with her primary research interests being in reconstruction of oral tissues lost as a result of disease (bone augmentation and regeneration and soft tissue augmentation) as well as patient-related outcomes. She holds a number of positions with external bodies such as the Royal College of Surgeons and is currently chair of Restorative Dentistry-UK.
